Fertility Clinic of Hawaiʻi Achievement Wall

La Pietra – Hawai‘i School for Girls Admissions Packet

Dr. Garyn Tsuru

As an independent web designer, I was given the opportunity to rebrand and redesign a counseling practice website using WordPress content management system. I worked with the client directly to achieve a design that would best resemble the business while also maintaining a visually appealing and professional look.

Dr. Garyn K. Tsuru is a clinical psychologist in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, specializing in therapeutic techniques and psychological assessment.

Washington Place Experience

Washington Place is a historic mansion once home to Hawaiʻi's last monarch, Queen Liliʻuokalani, and later the official residence of the Governor of Hawaiʻi.

This senior capstone project was initially developed by Analyn Delos Santos, whose goal was to design a mobile app that utilized Augmented Reality (AR) to make these historic stories come to life and incorporate digital technology into an updated modernized museum experience. Ultimately, I was brought on as an assistant developer and aided in completing the responsive-web experience.

This project was in partnership with the Washington Place Foundation and the previous First Lady of Hawaiʻi, Dawn Amano-Ige.

Design in Public Spaces

Design in Public Spaces was a course at the University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu that taught students to discuss and reflect on approaches, methods, and theories related to designing for public spaces, employing graphic design techniques.

I worked on 3 main projects for this course:

  • Benefits of a Labor Union

  • Age-Friendly Cities

  • Academy of Creative Media’s New Degree Program

AlphabetLand Preschool

During my professional work experience at a small local marketing firm, I assisted in designing and developing the new AlphabetLand Preschool website using Adobe Photoshop and WordPress content management system.

AlphabetLand Preschool is a locally owned and reputable preschool company on the island of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi that offers a well-rounded program and child development curriculum.

Hawaiian Plant Audio Guide

Designed a web-based mobile application to enhance the visitor’s experience at the Waikīkī Aquarium and highlighted 15 Hawaiian plants on the Aquarium ground using pictures and information. My tasks were to update the brochure with current images and information about each plant and program the collected information into the web-based app using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.

The audio guide is complete with recordings of 9 different languages (including English for the hearing impaired.)

Waikiki Aquarium

Listed are some of the projects I’ve worked on while employed at the Waikīkī Aquarium as a Graphics Assistant.

  • Touchscreen Kiosks (Reef Relationships, Devil Scorpionfish)

  • Family Night: Circus Under The Sea

  • Halloween Event

  • Wave Logo Creation

  • Collages for Print and Web

My main tasks included producing high-definition promotional digital signages, graphics art, mock-ups, and associated materials using Adobe Creative Cloud programs.

Digital Photography

Introduction to Digital Photography is a course at Honolulu Community College that teaches students the basic history and practice of digital photography.

I participated in the course’s photography competition, earning 1st place on my “Sunflower Field” submission out of 30+ student submissions. Also, my photo was published as the full-centered page in the Spring 2019 edition of the Art & Soul Magazine.

The magazine features photos, art, and literary creations by more than 40 Honolulu Community College students meant to inspire students to keep the creativity flowing.
